PFAS — "forever chemicals" — are surfacing in water across Long Island. Old septic systems, industrial residue, and contaminated soil have made this a local reality, not a distant headline.
In September 2025, vegetables from eight farms on the North and South Forks tested positive for PFAS. On July 26th, the Town of East Hampton reported that three out of four tested wells had been found with PFAS.
Most older home filtration systems were never built to remove PFAS at these levels. So even households that already "filter their water" may not be protected.
